Your guide to Haworth

All About Haworth

Set high on a hilltop, surrounded by brooding moors that roll for miles, Haworth is one of West Yorkshire’s most visited villages. Visitors come to stroll its picture-perfect, cobbled main thoroughfare and browse in charming stores selling antiques and collectables, secondhand books, and crafts. There are old-fashioned sweet shops, bakeries, cosy English pubs, and tearooms where you can enjoy a traditional afternoon tea.

Haworth is also close to some of the most scenic walking trails in West Yorkshire. You can set off through the dramatic moors of the Pennines, passing ruined farmhouses and spectacular waterfalls, noting an abundance of local birdlife along the way. The village is also home to one of England’s most famous old railway stations, where you can climb aboard a vintage steam train and take a ride through the beautiful countryside to the nearby village of Keighley.

The best time to stay in a holiday rental in Haworth

The most pleasant months to visit are from March to May and in September and October, when the days are generally mild for spending time outdoors. In October, a popular beer and music festival takes place in the village, showcasing breweries and distilleries from all around the country, accompanied by live music. June till August are the warmest months, when you can expect sunny days for enjoying walks on the moors. It is wise to pack a jacket and sunscreen as Yorkshire weather can be difficult to predict. Haworth retains its charms in wintertime, when the windows of the tearooms steam up and the pubs beckon with cosy cheer. During those months, expect cold temperatures and rain, and even the chance of snow.

Top things to do in Haworth

Bronte Waterfall

The three-mile Top Withens Walk takes you through rolling moors to one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the UK. The falls are by no means the biggest, but the rocky setting around them is full of natural beauty, and it’s a perfect spot to sit and enjoy nature. Along the way, you’ll come across Top Withens, a ruined farmhouse said to be the inspiration for one of England’s greatest literary works.

Keighley & Worth Valley Railway

At the historic Haworth Station, climb aboard the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway for a trip back through time on a heritage steam train. First opened in 1867, the train passes through the stunning Worth Valley, offering beautiful views of the rolling countryside. This railway line has famously appeared in numerous films and TV shows over the years. The train runs every weekend and daily during summer.

Haworth Central Park

Haworth Central Park is a 3.6-hectare scenic park that opened in 1927. The park retains its old charm, with an ornately decorated bandstand at its centre and spectacular flower gardens. The park provides stunning views across the valley, and there are many spots where you can enjoy a picnic or a rest after a day of exploring in the village.
